Hedgehog Cut and Glue Paper Craft Activity
The «Fall Hedgehog» paper craft template helps preschoolers develop fine motor skills, spatial awareness, coordination, and creative thinking. By making this 3D autumn hedgehog craft by hand, children can master basic skills such as coloring within the lines, carefully cutting along outlines, and gluing pieces together in the correct order.
The kit includes two A4 sheets for printing the black-and-white template of the hedgehog craft. The first sheet features a large outline of the hedgehog’s spiky back and the silhouette of its face. The second sheet contains all the small design details, including large eyes, a nose, round cheeks, two front paws, and several autumn leaves. All of the details have simple, clear outlines that are easy for children of varying skill levels to cut out.
We recommend printing the hedgehog appliqué template on thick white paper so that the finished craft will hold its shape well. This hedgehog craft is perfect for young children and ideal for fall-themed activities in preschool settings, as well as for cozy family time. Follow these steps with your child to make this simple, creative fall craft.
Step-by-Step Guide
Print the hedgehog template on thick paper. The first page has outlines of the hedgehog's spiky back and face. The second page includes the hedgehog's facial features, such as his eyes, nose, and cheeks; his legs; and a set of autumn leaves in various shapes.
Paint the piece with the needles dark brown. Then, color the face beige or light brown. Alternatively, you can use colored pencils or markers, or trace the outlines onto colored paper.
Go to the second page. Color the feet the same color as the face and color the cheeks pink. Color the leaves various fall colors, such as yellow, orange, and red. The hedgehog’s nose is black on the template.
Using scissors, carefully cut out all the colored elements along their outlines. This includes the outline of the needles, face, round eyes, pink cheeks, black nose, two paws, and set of fall leaves.
Apply glue to the back of the face outline. Then, position the hedgehog's face so that the brown quills form a frame around the head and align with the marked line on the template.
Apply glue to the back of the nose, eyes, and cheeks. Then, position them on the face.
Apply glue to the bottom edge of the face. Then, glue the cut-out autumn leaves in several layers, one by one, beneath the hedgehog to form a lush fan of gold and red leaves.
Finally, glue the two paws on top of the leaves. This will make it look like the hedgehog is holding the autumn bouquet.
