Shape Recognition Matching Activity
Shapes Sorting is an educational game and comprehensive learning tool designed to help children master the fundamentals of geometry. It helps preschoolers develop analytical thinking, logic, and visual perception skills. The objective is to sort objects by shape.
Print the free game template and cut out the shape cards on a separate sheet of paper. The game covers eight basic shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, pentagon, semicircle, and trapezoid. The game set includes a game board and cards with different items on them, such as a slice of watermelon or a keyhole. Have your child analyze each object, identify its shape, and place it in the empty column under the matching geometric shape. Children need to do more than just look at the picture. They must identify the outline of the object, ignoring the color or design. For instance, they must recognize that a sun resembles a circle and a balloon resembles an oval.
