This food sorting worksheet is a great nutrition activity that helps toddlers learn to recognize food that has spoiled. With a set of illustrated cards, children will learn to spot signs of spoilage, such as mold or unusual colors, and distinguish them from fresh, healthy foods.

Print the sorting activity sheets and cut out the food cards. There are two sorting categories: one for fresh products (fridge) and one for spoiled products (garbage bin).

During the activity, have the child pick a card, look closely at the picture, and decide if the food is fresh. This is one of those activities that gets people talking. Talk to your kids about why eating spoiled food is bad, how to properly store different products, and what signs indicate that food is no longer safe to eat.
