Gemstone Color and Shape Sorting Activity

The «Gemstone» color cut-and-paste activity is designed to help preschoolers develop analytical thinking skills and the ability to follow multi-step instructions. This math activity teaches children to classify objects based on two characteristics (color and shape) simultaneously. The task is to identify the intersection of color and shape, then place the corresponding gemstone in the correct cell.

First, print the worksheets and cut out all the gems on a separate sheet. Then, have your child look at the game board and explain the rules: Show them how to find the right place for a gem by identifying the intersection of a particular color on the left and a particular shape at the top. Children should pick up one card at a time, find the correct cell for it, and fill the entire table with the 35 gemstone cards.
