Preschool Science Activity: Sort the Elements of Nature

The Four Elements is an educational game designed for preschoolers to help them understand and classify natural phenomena. The four main categories are water, earth (nature and plants), fire, and air.

Print the file and cut out the cards on a separate page. The game includes boards for sorting the elements and a set of square cards depicting various items, phenomena, and objects. For instance, there is an ice cube and a wave for water, a match and a volcano for fire, a tree and mushrooms for earth, and a balloon and a tornado for air. Children must carefully analyze each image, determine which element it belongs to, and place the card in the correct slot. This effectively trains analytical thinking and classification skills.

In addition to developing logic, this educational material broadens children's horizons and enriches their vocabulary. During the game, an adult can discuss each picture with the preschooler by asking questions such as: «What do you need to light a candle?» «Where do flowers grow?» Why does a kite fly? «Where does rain come from?» These conversations develop reasoning skills and expand vocabulary.
