Turtle Spatial Directions Worksheets

This educational game, «Turtle,» helps players develop spatial thinking, visual attention, and the ability to work with algorithms. The main goal is to teach children to classify objects based on two characteristics: color and direction.

Print out the worksheets and cut out all the cards with turtles on them. The game includes eight different colors and four directions (up, down, left, and right). The game board has tables with cells. Each cell has an arrow that shows the direction and a colored circle. Preschoolers must look at these two characteristics and put a turtle of the same color crawling in the right direction into the correct cell.

To help young children (ages 3–4) learn about spatial concepts, start with a physical warm-up. Before you lay out the cards, show the child the «up» arrow and ask them to raise their arms or jump up. For the «down» arrow, tell them to sit down. For the «left» and «right» arrows, ask them to take a step in the direction you want. After this exercise, the child will understand the abstract symbols on the paper much better.
