Safe and Unsafe Household Objects Activity
The educational sorting game, Safe and Dangerous Household Items, is designed to help children develop basic life safety skills. The objective of the game is to teach children to distinguish between household items based on their safety level for children. This home safety activity fosters analytical thinking, logic, and a conscious attitude toward personal safety.
To prepare, print the file and cut out two sets of cards: one for dangerous items and one for safe items. The game uses realistic photos of everyday objects. One set features safe items, such as pillows, books, water bottles, toys, clothing, and plastic tableware. The other set features potentially dangerous items that a child might encounter, such as medicine, matches, electrical outlets, sharp objects, household chemicals, kitchen knives, and hot pots on the stove.
Shuffle all the cards and use the game sheets with blank cells for sorting. Pick a card and describe what is depicted on it with your child. Then, select the appropriate group. Discuss how safe it is for children to interact with the object on the card. This educational home safety game is useful for parents to use when explaining safety at home to children, as well as for preschool teachers to use during themed lessons.
